Welcome to People of the Land Restoration LTD.

At People of the Land Restoration LTD., we are proud to introduce our Indigenous-led, full-circle approach to land restoration leading to the creation of premium spa and beauty products. Rooted in the traditional knowledge and practices of our ancestors, we combine cultural burning techniques with sustainable harvesting to transform the forest into a medicine chest, offering you natural products that promote wellness and respect for the Earth.

Our Mission:

To restore the land while preserving, restoring, and revitalizing Indigenous traditions.

Our Vision:
To create meaningful opportunities for people to work on the land, strengthen connections to traditional ecological knowledge, and promote environmental resilience and sustainability.

Our Commitment:
We are dedicated to reducing wildfire risk through cultural burning, enhancing wildlife habitats, and supporting Indigenous food sovereignty. Our holistic approach not only protects the environment but also fosters community resilience and well-being.

We create products from plants cleared from the land during ecosystem restoration work that focuses on grassland restoration, silviculture, riparian restoration, invasive species management, and fostering innovation in land stewardship.

Through these efforts, we aim to build a stronger, more resilient community that honors and revitalizes traditional practices while ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

Meet Joe Gilchrist, Director and Co-Founder

We are honored to introduce Joe Gilchrist, our Director, President, and Co-Founder of People of the Land Restoration LTD. Joe is a member of the Skeetchestn Indian Band and the Secwepemc Nation. With over 30 years of experience working with the BC Ministry of Forests and Lands Wildfire Protection Branch, Joe brings unparalleled expertise in wildfire management and cultural burning. His extensive knowledge and dedication to land stewardship have made him a respected leader in the field.

In addition to his professional Wildfire Service experience, Joe has served as Vice President and President of the Salish Fire Keepers Society for five years. Under his leadership, the society has made significant strides in promoting the practice of cultural burning, which has been used for centuries by Indigenous Peoples to manage landscapes, enhance biodiversity, and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires.

Our Expertise in Cultural Burning

Cultural burning is at the heart of our land restoration efforts. This ancient practice involves the intentional use of fire to manage vegetation and promote ecosystem health. By conducting controlled burns, we reduce fuel loads, mitigate wildfire risks, and create a more resilient landscape. Our cultural burning practices are guided by traditional ecological knowledge, ensuring that we honor and protect the land for future generations.
